If We Were On A September Coffee Date…#4

Hi there! It’s that time again, virtual coffee date time! I love our coffee dates because it’s the time when I get to share my exciting news, sneak peeks and blog changes with you. Today’s coffee date is a September coffee date!

In order to bring in the month of September, I decided to do a September coffee date post to keep you updated on everything new and exciting with the blog! www.JessExplainsItAll.com

If this is your first time tuning in for a coffee date, they’re just a post where we get to sit down together and chat about life.  I’ll be here writing the post sipping on coffee, per usual.  And I encourage you to grab a cup of Joe (or tea, whatever you like!) as well.

For this post I’m sipping on Hunt Brothers’ Organic Blue Honduran Organic Coffee.  Have you got your cup?  Let’s get started! .  If you missed the others check them out here: coffee date #1coffee date #2, coffee date #3!  As always, if you have something you’d like me to talk about leave a comment or send me an email and I’ll include it in the next post.

If we were on a coffee date I’d talk about going home.  I’m very excited to share that during the month of September I have a short trip home to visit my parents (and my boyfriend is coming too – which is super exciting!).

If you’ve tuned into the blog before I know you’ve heard me talk about my mum before, she’s the genius mastermind behind The Gardening Cook and Recipes Just 4 U.  Plus, she’s my mama, and I love her tons.

I’m super excited for this trip.  And I’m thrilled about all of the North Carolina related content I’ll be sharing with you on the blog from that trip.

DIY fall tablescape

If we were on a coffee day, I’d Talk about these things.

So many things are important to me this month. If we got together, I’d find the time to explore these topics with you.

I’d talk about fall.

I am SO beyond excited for fall.  You can see why I love it so much in a post I wrote last year called 10 reasons why i’m looking forward to October.  But as a synopsis, I love getting to wear cooler weather clothes, and preparing for all of the holidays that happen – Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas and New Years Eve!

Holidays are my favorite time to write blog posts, because there’s so much festive content to create!  The fall tablescape above was something I made last year that I was absolutely in love with!  Now that we’re in September, bring on the fall crafts!!

I’d talk about saying yes and the value of time.

This has been something I’ve been SO aware of lately.  While I have found a good productive morning routine I find that I’m still just too busy – I’m sure you can relate!

I’m realizing that recently I’ve over-committed myself by saying yes too much, and I’m realizing that I don’t have enough time to get everything done without being rushed. I’t been a super stressful past month, but once I realized it was because I had been saying yes to too many things it’s really changed my view on it.

I am now really thinking hard about things before committing to them (in my personal life, and my blog life!).

I want my time to be spent well, more of a quality over quantity mindset.  I think previously I had been trying to think with a quality AND quantity mindset, but now I’m allowing myself to say ‘no’ when I need to and to take time for myself.

Do you have any helpful tricks for time management?  I’d love to hear about them in the comments.

Sunset over the wate

I’d talk about “me time”.

This sort of goes along with what I was talking about above.  I find that if I’m just working all the time I’m actually not as productive.  It’s much better for me if I take a day off to do something I love, like going down to the beach, because it helps me recharge.

One of my favorite “me time’ things to do is go to the beach – which is where the above photo is from.  Seeing the sun set over the ocean is something so calming to me, and honestly one of my favorite things to do.  If you want to see a day where I had some more “me time” check out this pool day post.

I’d talk about being grateful.

As much as I complain about not having enough time (which is actually true lately), I do want to stop and focus on being grateful.  There are so many wonderful things in my life and I find when I am particularly complain-y, I need to focus on the things I’m grateful for even more.

There’s beauty everywhere, and if you let it, it will impact your life in big (and little) ways!

I just hit my 3 year LAversary, which you can read about here.  In the post I acknowledge that while sometimes I’m upset that I’m not further in the direction that I want to be – there are so many wonderful things to be grateful for!

Coffee macaroons and planner

I’d talk about coffee.

If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen the photo above before.  It’s from one of my favorite coffee shops called Republic of Pie.  I have been going to a lot of coffee shops lately to work on the blog, because I find that I’m more productive when I’m not at home.

I have a desk space that seems like it will stay clean for approximately five minutes and then it gets dirty again, so I would have to clean it before I work.

I’m trying to limit how much I’m going out though, and I’ve been making my own coffee instead (and at least making an effort to keep my desk clean).  Hunt Brothers sent me some of their Organic Blue Honduran Coffee to review a little while ago and I’ve been obsessed with it!

I’ll let you know how the keeping-my-desk-clean project goes when we check in on our next coffee date!

reading a book by the pool

I’d brainstorm with you about creating another blog.

This has been a huge issue on my mind lately.  As I’m creating more and more fashion content I’m wondering whether it fits in with the content I’ve been creating for Jess Explains It All.

In the past, it’s been more food, and tutorial/lifestyle related before – and now it’s seeing a lot more fashion content.

I decided to name my blog “Jess Explains It All” because I wanted to write about anything and everything that interests me, and I knew my interest would change over time.

Now that they’re changing to include more fashion and travel posts I’m wondering if it would be better to have a separate blog to on those topics, of if you think it’s OK for me to really write about it all here.  What do you think about the topic?

I’ve been trying to make the decision, but I’d love your input since you’re such a crucial part of the blog!!  Please let me know in the comments what you think about making a separate blog or keeping all the content here.coffee beans in a heart shapeThanks for joining me for our September coffee date!  I’ve loved sharing my side of the story with you, I’d love to hear from you in the comments – especially about the topic I brought up about creating another blog!

Have fun visiting your mom!! And take lots of pics. You also know how I feel about the blog and the direction. I do think lifestyle and fashion and travel go hand in hand but it can be hard to tie in with food related posts. Maybe make a different blog for strictly fashion/lifestyle/travel?

Hope you are doing well love!!

Haha, with both of us being bloggers I’m sure it will be photos non-stop! LOL And That conversation with you and Leona is actually what got me thinking about splitting the blog. Thanks for your advice!

What a lovely blog! Thank you for introducing me to Republic of Pie (!). It sounds like you’re finding new focus with your blog–I think the name would still work with the more focused scope you mentioned!
