How to Make Strawberry Water

Summer is a time for using fresh fruit in recipes and one of my favorite ideas is making homemade Strawberry water. It’s light and fresh and makes use of strawberry tops that might otherwise go in the garbage bin.

Making fruit infused waterI am so in love with summer – absolutely everything about it!  I love the sun, the beach, and a cool ocean breeze.  I love the smell of barbecued chicken and freshly cut grass.

I love sun-kissed skin, painted nails and wearing strappy sandals for the 4th of July.  I love how long the days are, and farmers markets with fresh produce.  I love sitting outside on patios at restaurants and not needing to wear heavy sweaters.  I love the positive attitude that everyone seems to sport once summer sets in.

And I absolutely adore all the options of fresh fruit after a winter of having to resort to mediocre or frozen fruit.  My favorite?  Summer strawberries!

If you have a great farmers market near you like I do (the Culver City Farmers Market!), you might be able to get a great deal on your strawberries.  But wouldn’t you like your money to go even further?  Now it can by making this strawberry infused water!

After you use all of your delicious strawberries in a some yogurt popsicles, a cheesecake, fruit salad, or whatever delicious summery recipe you can find, save your strawberry tops!!

If you toss them out without reusing them it’s like throwing money straight in the trash.  Get more mileage for your dollars by making strawberry infused water.

Mason jar with strawberry pieces

I like to use Mason jars because they have built in screw tops which makes storing the strawberry flavored water a cinch.

Take a Mason jar and put your strawberry tops in it. They should already be rinsed from when you used them previously.  (You can also use whole strawberries for even more flavor, but I love using the tops as a money saving tip.)

Then fill the Mason jar with filtered water.  I have a Brita pitcher that I use for filtered water, so I just poured that water in the Mason jar.

Once you’ve got your strawberry tops in water, pop the Mason jar in the fridge.  Let it sit for an hour or so (the longer you let it sit, the more intense the strawberry infused flavor will be!)

When you are ready,  take out the Mason Jar, pour the water, and enjoy!

I’m glad you liked it! You can make other flavors if you want too like peach, cherry, or mint. You can go all out by making combinations – Some neat ideas would be strawberry + mango, strawberry + lime, peach + mint… the possibilities are endless!
