When I was in middle school, I was totally the girl that embraced the ‘punk girl’ fashion. I loved going to indie concerts, wearing studs, and throwing on something black. While I still love all of those things, I find that I style them is much differently than I did in middle school.
I love paring a more edgy piece with something a little feminine. One of my favorite styles to throw together is what I like to call rocker chic. While studs and lace are fabulous on their own, I think they’re even better when paired together!
My favorite piece of this outfit is the studded jacket. I found it at a consignment shop a few years ago. It makes the whole outfit!
Since the jacket is such a bold piece, I tried to pair it with soft, feminine and subtle pieces like this lace top. Other feminine options that would go well are an asymmetrical blush top, or a ruffled off the shoulder top.
I accentuated the look with pink pearl jewelry like a layered necklace and some dangle pearl earrings because nothing screams chic to me more than a set of pink pearls!
I also put a lace bandeau underneath my top to have some lace peek out to contrast with how many studs are on the jacket.
I kept it simple with the bottom half of this ensemble by grabbing my go-to black miniskirt, a pair of black ankle booties and some jet black tights.
It was particularly cold the day I wore this, so having thick tights was necessary for fashion and function! While I’m loving the tights I wore here, I think the next time I wear this outfit, I add a pair of fabulous textured tights!
The last piece that pulls this outfit together for me is this black vintage clutch I got from Vintage Jewelry Lane. I think it goes well with both the feminine and rocker elements of this look.
With all of those elements thrown together I feel on top of the fashion world. Half of me feels like a rock star, and the other half like a princess.
It’s definitely safe to say this rocker chic style is here to stay in my wardrobe.
Look out California – I’m coming for you – I’m kicking butt and taking names!

I still remember that little girl from my Montessori class and how hard she always worked, and her kind lovng heart. I’m so proud of your progress and the directions you’re taking in your life. You’re as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside. I hope one day you visit me in New Zealand. You would love it.
